The county board Tuesday voted Supervisor Jerry Muenzer as the chairman of the San Benito County Board of Supervisors for 2014. He succeeds Supervisor Anthony Botelho, who served as last year’s chairman.
“You represented our county well,” Supervisor Margie Barrios said about the outgoing chairman. Barrios will become the vice-chairwoman of the board.
“It was a great year with all of you,” Botelho said as he received a plaque from Muenzer for his service.
Muenzer succeeds Botelho and has largely kept most of the committee assignments the same.
“I look forward to this new year as your chair,” Muenzer said.
In 2013, Muenzer was a champion of several new tax initiatives to increase tourism and revenue in the county, most notably the ‘Welcome, Stranger’ or hotel tax, which would increase fees on hotel stays for people visiting the county.
