County supervisors Tuesday held a required public hearing on proposed rate hikes at the John Smith Landfill and continued the matter, as required to allow a 10-day period for publication, until the July 21 meeting for formal adoption.
The proposed rate increases are associated with a cost-of-living adjustment and added costs from implementation of AB32, which requires counties to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.
The proposed rates are solid waste moving from $61 to $62.75; compact franchise solid waste from $43 to $44.75; and residual solid waste from $30 to $31.75, according to the board agenda.
The rate increases are expected to generate $220,000 annually, according to the agenda report.
