The San Benito County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday is set to weigh a contract with Sequoia Pacific Voting Systems to purchase a refurbished voting machine.
Officials are considering the purchase, so the county would have two machines, after delays following the November election.
“This is a follow-up to the problem we had with the election,” said County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson. “Delays would have to happen (without this machine), and we don’t want that to happen.”
Tuesday’s meeting is set for 9 a.m. at the County Administration Building, 481 Fourth St.
As of now, the county only has one ballot counting machine and to avoid the delayed results of November’s presidential election, the county needs another machine, she said.
The refurbished machine will cost $58,625.
“It is still expensive, but we need to have a backup,” Thompson said.

The board will also hear a report from Assistant County Administrative Officer Rich Inman regarding the status of the recruitment for the open county counsel and public works administrator positions.
“(This will give us) a feel for the response we are getting,” Thompson said, “to see how many applicants we are getting.”
The county has contracted with Bob Murray and Associates to conduct the search for candidates for the open positions. The firm specializes in public-sector executive recruitments.
