Four people in San Benito County voted for a nut-farming former TV star to be the next president of the United States.

Those four choices for Green Party presidential candidate Roseanne Barr were among the tallies cast by about 7,000 voters in San Benito County’s primary election Tuesday. The ballot featured three local county board races, several Hollister measures and a host of state and national races.

Among party races for the presidential ticket, President Barack Obama gained 93.9 percent of the vote in the county, or 2,825 votes. There were 183 write-in choices, while those are not specified in the results.

Among Republicans, GOP nominee Mitt Romney gained 76.9 percent, or 1,939 votes in this heavily Democratic county. Ron Paul had 10.75 percent, or 271 votes. Rick Santorum had 5.87 percent, or 148 votes. Newt Gingrich gained 4.25 percent, while there were 29 write-in votes.

In the American Independent Party, there were actually more write-in votes tallied than there were for the biggest vote getter on the ballot, Edward C. Noonan, who had 27 votes compared with 31 write-ins.

Barr tied for second in San Benito County among Green Party voters. Jill Stein gained the most votes, with 10, while Kent Mesplay had the same number as Barr.

There were just 19 votes total in the Libertarian race, and three for Peace and Freedom candidates.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Sen. Diane Feinstein gained 48.5 percent, with the next-closest competitor having 8.7 percent of the vote.

In the 20th Congressional District race, Rep. Sam Farr had 55.2 percent with the next competitor, Jeff Taylor, at 30.9 percent.

In the 30th District Assembly race, Assemblyman Luis Alejo had 53.2 percent to 47.3 percent for challenger Robert Bernosky, a San Benito County resident.
