Election 2016

The San Benito County Department of Elections has installed a new 24/7 ballot drop box for vote-by-mail ballots.

The drop box is located in the alley between the Hall of Records and the San Benito County Free Library. The box is under 24/7 video surveillance for security purposes, and can be accessed by way of the Fifth Street alley entrance.

Ballots can be deposited at the drop box without postage, but the Department of Elections wants to remind vote-by-mail voters that they must sign their return envelope for their ballot to be processed and counted. All ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

There are now four ways to turn in vote-by-mail ballots: the new drop box, U.S. mail, any polling place in the county on Election Day, and early voting at the Department of Elections office (440 Fifth Street, Second Floor, Room 206).

According to the Department of Elections, more than 68 percent of county voters are voting by mail this November.
