More than 120 Bay Area mountain bikers showed up at Henry Coe
State Park on March 27 to compete in Round 3 of the SB Racing
Winter MTB XC Series and to raise funds for the park.

More than 120 Bay Area mountain bikers showed up at Henry Coe State Park on March 27 to compete in Round 3 of the SB Racing Winter MTB XC Series and to raise funds for the park.

The USA Cycling-sanctioned event was broken up into three categories and nine age classes.

Morgan Hill’s Ted Thomas placed first overall in the 1 1/2-lap beginner’s category, covering the rugged 6 1/2-mile course in one hour, 35:56 minutes. He also won the men’s 20-29 class.

Jennifer Grifall, another Category 3 racer from Morgan Hill, won the women’s 35-plus class in 2:08:37.

Round 4 of the five-part series is scheduled to take place May 8 at Santa Teresa Park in San Jose.

Category and class winners at Henry Coe are as follows:

Category 1 (expert/pro), three laps — Men’s Pro: Dean Poshard, 2:22:21; Women’s Pro: Jamie Stamps, 2:28:04; Men’s 15-19, Matt Dion, 1:55:51; Men’s 30-39: John Pattullo, 1:46:29; Men’s 40-49: Mike Donahu, 1:40:35; Men’s 50-plus: Dane Grant, 2:27:07; Single Speed: Tim Cannard, 2:15:14.

Category 2 (sport), two laps — Men’s 14 and under: Dylan Drummond, 2:12:33; Men’s 15-19: Marcelo Quiroz Jr., 2:09:11; Men’s 20-29: Brian Newman, 1:59:17; Men’s 30-39: Dylan McReynolds, 1:53:58; Men’s 40-49: Brian Martinez, 1:59:15; Men’s 50-plus: Ken Shiokari, 2:00:51; Single Speed: Brett Hahn, 2:05:52; Women’s 35-plus: Shiloh Ballard, 2:34:36.

Category 3 (beginner), 1.5 laps — Men’s 14 and under: Brian Twiggs, 2:13:49; Men’s 20-29: Ted Thomas, 1:35:56; Men’s 30-39: Elliott Deloach, 1:39:09; Men’s 40-49: Robert Enns, 1:37:39; Men’s 50-59: Alex Thomas, 1:55:54; Men’s 60-plus: Jay McLaughlin, 2:10:13; Women’s 19-34: Kristin Quinones, 2:14:26; Women’s 35-plus: Jennifer Grifall, 2:08:37.
