“Date Movie” is the story of hopeless romantic, Julia Jones (Alyson Hannigan), who has finally met the man she has been hoping for, the very British Grant Funckyerdoder (Adam Campbell). But before they can have nuptial bliss, they’ll have to cross the hurdle of “meeting the parents” and hook up with a “wedding planner,” and then contend with Grant’s friend, Andy – an exceptionally beautiful woman who wants to put the wedding on permanent hold.

He Said:

Except for satirizing movies such as “Big Fat Greek Wedding” and “Meet the Parents” (that they clearly were trying to draw upon for audience appreciation), I thought the script for “Date Movie” was wholly lacking in even approaching the quality of humor of those two movies. While the acting was way over the top to try to be somewhat funny by design, it couldn’t make this one more than below average for a real date movie. I couldn’t help but feel the daters viewing it would squirm on a fairly regular basis during the film at some of the misguided attempts at humor. Oh, there were moments when I smiled at its ridiculousness, but they didn’t make up for the overall film’s lack of script, acting, and plot that had me feeling that there was just too much lacking to be rated very highly by most folks over 13 years of age. It was definitely below average.

On the R&R Scale (1-10):

4 for script (Liposuction saves woman’s chance for romance)

5 for direction (Ridiculous action shots)

5 for acting (Exaggerated in every way)

5 for plot (Simple and predictable)

4 for entertainment value

4.5 Overall

She Said:

After the first few minutes of “Date Movie,” I wanted my money back. It was pathetic in situation, acting and attempts at comedy. The thought of such low humor targeted at young audiences almost made me mad at what filmmakers will stoop to in order to try to capture the box office via our teens. The humor was ridiculous, as Bob said, and the acting, which got better as the film progressed, couldn’t make up for the dismal start. Alyson Hannigan, Jennifer Coolidge, Fred Willard, Eddie Griffin and Adam Campbell didn’t do their careers any justice by selecting this film to associate themselves with. I would recommend that you pass on this one and tell your teens to pass on it also. They are above this.

On the R&R Scale (1-10)

4 for script (Pathetic attempts at humor. Not much there)

4 for direction (“)

4 for acting (“)

4 for plot (“)

3 for entertainment value (for a comedy)

3.8 Overall
