Dear Editor,

I was deeply sadden about the recent death of one of our community’s young men. I have four boys who are taken in by this “I am living my life my way” mentality. They are all so affected by their friend’s death and wonder why?

I try to make them understand that there were choices that were made by him and his friend, bad choices by good-hearted young men.

I have survived my youth and learned from those who didn’t. I now have a responsibility to be a parent to all the children I see making bad choices.

I tell them, “no one is a sole entity in this world, and everything we do affects everyone around us.”

So when one of our friends leaves us they are no longer here in this life, and hopefully in a better place. They leave us with a great sadness, striving to put back together our grief-stricken lives. Now we are not living our lives the way we wanted to.
