Delo’s Divots: We all know that golf is a game of control.
However, there are those certain holes where you really want to
maximize your distance, and there are ways to squeeze a little
extra distance out of your drives without buying the latest
supercharged titanium graphite model for $500. By simply adjusting
your grip, you can maximize distance.
We all know that golf is a game of control. However, there are those certain holes where you really want to maximize your distance, and there are ways to squeeze a little extra distance out of your drives without buying the latest supercharged titanium graphite model for $500.
By simply adjusting your grip, you can maximize distance.
First of all, grip the club as high up as you can — even to the point where the “heel” of the palm of your left hand is hanging over the end of the club. This actually maximizes the length of the club.
Secondly, make sure your hands take up a minimal amount of space on the club. Keep your fingers tight together and make sure there are no gaps between your fingers where you can see your grip, where your fingers are too spread out and take up too much room on the club — a “Ty Cobb” grip doesn’t work for long drives.
You can even experiment with a double over lap grip. This is where you overlap two fingers instead of just one. Once again, this minimizes the area the hands take up on the grip and creates a smaller fulcrum point, which, in turn, maximizes club head speed, which, you guessed it, maximizes distance.
