If you’re gripping your putter the same as the rest of your clubs, then you’re probably not putting as well as you could be. The putting stroke is just that – a stroke, not a swing.
For this reason, you’ll benefit from a different type of grip.
The most popular and widely used grip among great putters is the reverse overlap. In this grip, the entire right hand is on the club and the forefinger of your left hand simply lays over the pinky of your right (assuming you’re right-handed). Both thumbs are straight down the shaft and rest on the flat spot on the top of all putter grips. The back of your left hand should be parallel with the putter face. Now you are ready to putt like a pro.
Use your arms and shoulders and not your wrists and you’ll take full advantage of your new and much improved putting grip.
Don’t be upset when the grip doesn’t feel right at first. Stick with it. It will help you in the long run.
