I’ve written plenty of times about how important the left side of your body is to your swing. The swing is more of a pulling motion with the left side than it is a pushing action with the right.
When it comes to the lower body, we need to address a common problem – when a person “spins out” with their left foot and leg twists through impact and follow-through.
The simple fact is that the left foot should stay in the same “footprint” throughout the swing. By this, I mean it can’t change position. Some people lift their left heel or roll onto their instep slightly on the backswing. This is perfectly fine, and I encourage it. However, don’t spin your foot or move it from the area it started. This causes an unstable front side to your swing. Also, if your front foot spins open, chances are your leg, hips and shoulders will spin open as well.
So, focus on your foot for a few swings and concentrate on keeping that left side steady. It will improve your ball striking.
