The county’s effort to get the vehicle abatement program renewed another 10 years is narrowly ahead of the necessary pace for a victory, according to unofficial election results.
With all precincts reporting, the abandoned vehicle program renewal – Measure H – had gained 66.9 percent of the vote with a two-thirds approval needed. There were 5,599 yes votes and 2,770 no votes, according to the results.
The county elections office still must count provisional ballots and do a canvassing before making the counts official.
Measure H:
Should the San Benito County Vehicle Abatement Program and associated vehicle registration fees ($1 per vehicle and an additional $2 for certain commercial vehicles) be renewed for a ten-year term under California Vehicle Code Sections 9250.7 and 22710, or any successor statutes thereto, for the purposes of removal and disposal of abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicles?
