Mayor to speak at luncheon

Hollister City Mayor Pauline Valdivia will be the guest speaker at this month’s Lunch with Leaders event hosted by the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce. It will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at San Juan Oaks Golf Club near Hollister. The cost is $15 per person with a reservation and $18 at the door without a reservation.

Volunteers needed for community farm

The Comstock Community Farm and the San Benito Food Bank are seeking volunteers to help at the community farm May 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families, children and youth are invited to help out with weeding the garden, which includes 2,000 plants, preparing the fruit orchard, planting and more.

The mission of the community farm is to feed healthy food to low-income individuals and families of San Benito county, particularly local farm-worker families, children and schools. The goal is to also provide an educational space for youth to learn healthy eating and how to grow food in an organic way that protects their health as well as their community and environment.

A snack will be provided for volunteers and a pot luck lunch will be served.

Spring Round-Up

CASA of San Benito County will host its annual fundraiser, the Spring Round-Up, May 21, from 6 p.m. to 1- p.m., at Bolado Park. The event will include a barbecue dinner, dancing and an auction. Sage Brush will provide the live music. Tickets are $35 per person. To purchase raffle tickets, guests must be 21 or over. For more information or for tickets, call the CASA office at 637-4992.

Bake sale

Leeandra Archdeacon will hold a bake sale May 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of the Hollister Safeway store for the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. The nonprofit organization funds research, awareness and gives support to families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Archdeacon is raising money to participating with the half-marathon team at the Disneyland half marathon “Run for Our Sons.”

Spaghetti feed

Hollister’s Italian Catholic Federation is hosting a spaghetti feed May 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Sacred Heart O’Reilly Hall, 680 College St. Sit-down or take-out meals are available. Adults are $12, children 6-12 are $6 and children 5 and under are free. Tickets are available at Pennywise Drug Store or by calling 207-3214 or 902-5151.

HDA seeks volunteers to hang plants

The Hollister Downtown Association is looking for civic-minded groups to help with watering the hanging planters on San Benito Street. Weekday and weekend time slots are available. Equipment and training will be provided. For more information, call Brenda Weatherly at 636-8406.

Horse Show Parade

This year’s Saddle Horse Parade application are available at the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau office, 650 San Benito St. #130, or on the chamber website sanbenitocountychamber.com. The parade is 6 p.m. June 23.

Dog Days of Hollister

The Hollister Dog Owners Group will host the Dog Days of Hollister, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Dunne Park, in Hollister. Dog Days is a celebration of the dog. They promote responsible dog ownership by highlighting some of the fun ways people can build strong, mutually appreciative relationships with their dogs. The dog costume contest and parade will be held at 2 p.m. At noon, the group will present CPR masks designed for dogs to the local fire departments. Blood drive

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive in Hollister, May 19, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cultural Hall, 1670 Cienega Road. Red Barn Run

The second annual Red Barn Run 5K and 10K will be May 22, at Casa de Fruta. The event benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Registration is $38 for the 5K and $43 for the 10K for runners or walkers who register by May 1. Prices will increase then. The registration includes the run, a souvenir T-shirt, a post-race barbecue lunch with water or a beer (for 21 and older), a best over all grand prize for the male and female top finisher and awards for the top three finishers in each division. Chicken BBQ

The San Juan Bautista VFW Post 6359 and Friends for Mary Sellen will be hosting a chicken barbecue take out May 22, from noon to 5 p.m., at the San Juan Veterans Hall, 58 Monterey St. The barbecue is $10 per plate and includes chicken, salad, beans and garlic. There will be a no-host bar and a music provided by the Bar Hoppers. Raffle tickets will be available fro $5 each or five for $20, with a drawing held that day (need not be present to win.) Some items included one week vacation in Twain Harte, framed art by David Medeiros and other items. Donations will be taken to San Benito Bank, in San Juan Bautista.
