Hollister – An accident at the intersection of Sunnyslope and Fairview roads sent two Hollister residents to the hospital – one with minor injuries and the other with moderate head trauma Tuesday.
Sheryl Benevento, 51, was flown to San Jose Medical Center with moderate head trauma after her head hit the windshield of a Dodge Durango she was a passenger in, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Hollister resident Laura Spence, 28, the driver of the Durango, violated the right of way at the intersection and collided with a Buick LeSabre driven by 46-year-old Julie Keiser around 5:30pm, said CHP Officer Jason Page.
Keiser had a minor complaint of pain to her chest and was taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Hospital, Page said.
A young boy was in a car seat in the back of the Durango and had no injuries. Spence had no injuries, Page said.
Spence was stopped at the intersection waiting to make a left turn and didn’t see Keiser traveling southbound at about 55 mph because a pick-up truck in the right-hand turn lane was blocking her view, Page said.
The Buick had major damage down the entire passenger side and the Durango had moderate damage to the front.
That area has had four fatal accidents in the past two years, according to the CHP. The most recent was in April when a Sacramento resident was killed in an accident that occurred in a similar way.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Page said. “They could have lost control and rolled it.”
