Congressman Sam Farr’s office announced he will visit a Watsonville produce company that received a $4.6 million loan from the federal government.

The office for Farr, the U.S. representative for San Benito County, sent the following announcement:

Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) will join USDA Rural Business Service Administrator Judith Canales to tour Watsonville Coast Produce, to highlight the economic benefits of a $4.6 million Business & Industry Guaranteed Loan. The event with the Congressman and USDA administrator will take place on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Watsonville Coat Produce, 275 Kearney Street, Watsonville.

USDA Rural Development provided a $4.6 million Business & Industry Guaranteed Loan, originated by Santa Cruz County Bank, to Watsonville Coast Produce in June, 2009. The funds allowed Watsonville Coast Produce to remain a strong, thriving business in the community and to continue providing critical packing and shipping services for growers throughout Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey Counties.

Congressman Farr is the Democrat Ranking Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies, which has legislative jurisdiction over the Department of Agriculture.
