One of the major difficulties in striking a golf ball squarely
is matching up all the moving parts of your body. The upper half
can move so much faster than the lower and usually does for most
amateurs giving the false impression that they will hit the ball
farther. But that isn’t the way it works, unfortunately for us.
One of the major difficulties in striking a golf ball squarely is matching up all the moving parts of your body. The upper half can move so much faster than the lower and usually does for most amateurs giving the false impression that they will hit the ball farther. But that isn’t the way it works, unfortunately for us. We need to use the whole of our body. A quarterback can’t throw a ball as far if he were sitting in a chair and a runner with their arms tied behind their back won’t run as fast. In sports, the use of all of your body works best.

When I teach and coach people I am striving to show them how to do this. Sometimes we will work on the upper half (the swinging half) and sometimes on the lower half (the turning half). Once we create this process to put this in motion what do they do when they go out and actually play golf? Remember some people have worked on the upper half and some on the lower, how can you put this out of your head and find rhythm to your swing?

This is what I want them to do when they play. Just try and match up the speed they swing their hands with the speed they turn their body. That’s all, remember your hands move faster than your legs and will if you let them, so before you start your round hit ball until you feel matched up. You will have a better chance of getting on in regulation if you don’t force it but instead use “all of it”.

Just a reminder – any police officer, firefighter or active military personnel can play Eagle Ridge GC Monday through Thursday for half price, so please come see us. Have any golf related questions?
