San Juan Bautista high school could introduce football in the
years to come

The San Juan-Aromas Unified School District could form a committee that will explore and evaluate football at Anzar High School, according to superintendent Willard McCabe.

The item for consideration and action to establish a board committee that would evaluate football appeared on the district’s regular board meeting agenda for this week. However, McCabe noted the action item was postponed until the following board meeting, scheduled for Dec. 3.

“If it is approved, a committee will be formed … to explore football at Anzar,” McCabe said. “The goal is to have it in two to three years.”

Currently, Anzar offers girls volleyball and cross country — which both boys and girls can compete in — during the fall months.

The Anzar campus, meanwhile, already has an existing football field, including goal posts, after the San Benito Cardinals of American Youth Football broke ground on the San Juan Bautista campus in April to create a home football field.

More to come.
