USA Football, the sport’s national governing body on youth and amateur levels, recently selected Hollister’s Diane Castaneda to attend the 2010 NFL/USA Football Youth Football Summit in Canton, Ohio, this July.

Castaneda helps lead the NORCAL Youth Football and Cheer Conference of American Youth Football and is the president of the San Benito Cardinals Football & Cheer Program. The conference is comprised of 4,000 youth football players residing in Northern California communities, including Aromas, Emeryville, Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill, Oakland, Palo Alto, Sacramento, San Jose and San Juan Bautista.

Castaneda and youth football leaders from throughout the region attended USA Football’s State Leadership Forum hosted by the San Francisco 49ers at the team’s training facility on Feb. 27. Castaneda was selected at the event to represent the area at the NFL/USA Football Youth Football Summit in Canton. USA Football’s State Leadership Forum hosted by the 49ers is one of dozens of meetings that the non-profit holds across the country to share best practices within the youth football community.

“By participating in this summit, I will have some of the best instructors to teach me what is needed to have a successful youth program,” Castaneda said in a statement. “When I return to our next board meeting, I can relay vital information to our members and share the experience I had while in Canton.

“When I started my journey with youth football, I knew very little about what is needed to work with parents, coaches and players, but I jumped right in. And now I am going on my third year and have learned so much. I look forward to learning more and more each year.”

“Since 2006, dedicated volunteers who power youth football leagues have continued to enjoy sharing their knowledge and ideas at our state forums,” USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck said in a statement. “We’re pleased to have Diane contribute to this discussion on a national level at this summer’s youth football summit in Canton, thanks to the support of the NFL and the NFL Players Association.”

The NFL/USA Football Youth Summit, funded by the NFL and NFL Players Association, assembles nearly 200 youth and high school coaches from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., along with grassroots football leaders, including former NFL players now coaching at the high school level.
