Free-agent, all-pro quarterback Jeff Garcia confirmed reports Tuesday night that his agent has been in contact with the Philadelphia Eagles, and mentioned that there is interest but no contract offer as of yet.

If Garcia, 40, ends up on the Eagles’ roster, it will be the Gilroy native’s third stint with the club (2006-07, 2009-10).

A report by the Philadelphia Daily News of Garcia’s possible return to the Eagles surfaced last week after the Eagles departed with long-time starting quarterback Donovan McNabb, who was dealt to the Washington Redskins on April 4.

McNabb spent 11 seasons in Philadelphia.

Garcia, an 11-year vet, served as McNabb’s back-up during the 2006-07 season, taking over for the injured starter in November of that year. He led the Eagles to an NFC East title and a first-round playoff victory, throwing 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions during a five-game winning streak to close out the regular season.

Garcia signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders in April 2009, but was released just five months later. He was then reunited with the Eagles in September after McNabb went down in Week 1 with a broken rib. Garcia was released two weeks later.

In his most recent full-time gig, Garcia led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the playoffs in 2008.
