Hollister 46, Campbell Bears 18

By Sammie Zaragoza

The Vikings, still feeling the pains of last week’s lost, took the field in Campbell ready for redemption. It wouldn’t come on the first play of the game, when a booming kick was caught by a Bear who scored a game-opening touchdown.

The Vikings answered with a touchdown of their own a few plays later. Behind quarterback Diego Fisher and Ishmael Medina, the Vikings advanced to the 50-yard line.

Helped by a tough Hollister offensive line, Andres Soto cut through the Bear defense and sprinted nearly 50 yards for a touchdown, giving Hollister a 8-6 lead.

The Bears weren’t able to move the ball on their next possession thanks to crunching tackles by Nathaniel Newman and Clint Fuentes.

On the next Hollister drive, Medina, Adam Mendoza and fullback Michael Zaragoza combined to drive the ball to the 2-yard line, before Fisher put the Vikings up 14-6.

In the second quarter, the Vikings added opted for a field goal from Soto to extend their lead to 17-6. The Bears pulled closer with a second touchdown moments later. The Vikings, though, extended their lead when Soto returned the following kickoff for a touchdown and a 25-12 lead.

Fisher and the Vikings extended their lead to 33-12 after Fisher hit Wahl, who then cut across the field to the open field and a touchdown. The Vikings scored again when Fisher followed a block by Medina and to go up 40-18.

The score remained the same until the fourth quarter when workhouse runner Medina followed blocks by Marc Martinez and Matthew Manley to move the chains into the red zone. On the next play, Fisher picked up a low snap and ran to the left side to extend the Viking lead to 46-18.
