Editor,

When I was discharged, I went to junior college in Hollister then transferred Fresno State like so many.

At that time, California sold the old campus to Fresno City and bought 320 acres on Sitan Avenue for their new Fresno State campus in 1956 or so. I had my classes at both colleges.

At that time, the new Fresno State was using about 10 of the 320 acres. The nearest apartments were in Clovis about five or six miles away. The 310 acres was a cow pasture and the dean of ag was Lloyd Dowler, who was related to a Green Bay Packer. If you drive on Shaw now, it is its own city. The dairy makes dairy products for their cafeteria and the whole 320 acres is now in use. What do you think the land cost in those days, about $1000 an acre? What about now?

President Kennedy looked at the moon and said we’ll have a man there and back within a decade. The campus Gavilan is going to build near the airport is not far out, but maybe too close in.
