Downtown is looking a little pink these days, as volunteers coordinate the first Pink Out Extravaganza in Hollister on Friday to promote awareness of breast cancer.

The event coincides with breast cancer awareness month.

Pink Ribbons went up on trees and lampposts in downtown Hollister over the weekend and there are plans for local businesses to decorate their store fronts in the color. Local school children will be encouraged to wear pink ribbons and the San Benito High School students will be wearing pink during the football team’s “Tackle for a Cure” event on Friday.

Some of the local businesses to participate include Tiffany Ford, Santa Barbara Bank, Domino’s Pizza and more.

Mary Andrade, the co-chair of the event, is involved with the Hope for a Cure Educational Memorial Scholarship, which gives scholarships to college student who have lost a loved one to breast cancer.
