Junior golfer records 52, San Benito beats Mustangs 218-233
HOLLISTER
Jenny Glosser once again led the San Benito girls golf team on Thursday as she carded a 52 and helped the Lady ‘Balers defeat the visiting Gilroy Mustangs 218-233 at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
Each of the Lady ‘Balers compiled scores in the 50s. Although Mustang Katie Kishimura was the medalist of Thursday’s Tri-County Athletic League dual meet, recording a 50 to lead all scorers, San Benito found a balance with their highest score coming in at a 58.
“It was a good day, but we could have been better,” coach Chris Branon said. “The goal we’re shooting for is the 200 score. We’re 18 stokes away from that. I think that’s achievable.
“We should have been better at home, but it’s a very, very young team.”
Although the score was off from the 213 San Benito posted at the TCAL Jamboree last week, Branon seemed thrilled with the enthusiasm on the team and the competition it’s stirring amongst the players.
“They’re very competitive,” said Branon, who believes one should expect different players at different spots throughout the course of the season.
The junior Glosser, however, seems to be positioning herself atop the roster after posting the top score in the last two meets, recording a 52 Thursday and a 50 at the Jamboree.
Meanwhile, Jordan Davies shot a 53, Alexis Sanchez a 56, and Katie Moeller and Nicole Rianda each carding matching 57s. LaShea Dailey rounded out San Benito with a 58.
After Gilroy’s Kishimura’s shot a 50, Mustangs Megan Donahoe recorded a 56, Sophia Sullivan a 59, and Alexis Driggs and Laura Fellows a 72 and a 77, respectively. Cassidy Daley is listed as having withdrawn.
San Benito will host Everett Alvarez Monday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.
