Behind medalists Emiley Palmquist and Nicole Rianda, the San Benito girls golf team officially opened its 2010 campaign with a 253-314 win against Watsonville at the Pajaro Valley Golf Club on Tuesday.

Palmquist and Rianda each carded matching scores of 48 to pace San Benito on the par-36 front nine, which measured 2,759 yards. And their teammates weren’t far behind, either.

Jordan Davies and LaShea Dailey both followed with 52s, while Morgan DiDomenico and Lexi Branon each recorded 53s for the Balers.

San Benito’s unofficial start to the season came last Thursday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, where the Balers hosted the Tri-County Athletic League Jamboree.

Behind a 46 from Davies, a senior, the Balers took third at the Jamboree with a 244, finishing behind Stevenson (233) and Santa Catalina (240).

Palmquist was second on the team with a 47, Dailey carded a 48, while DiDomenico (51) and Victoria Kay rounded out the team with a 52.

Lexi Branon also recorded a 54 for the team.

The Balers managed to edge Monte Vista Christian (247) at the Jamboree, while Salinas (256), Pacific Grove (280), Notre Dame (314), Gilroy (331), Alvarez (338) and Christopher (367) rounded out the league.

San Benito will return to action Thursday when it will play Monte Vista Christian at the Spring Hills Golf Course in Watsonville. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.
