Pacific Grove’s Hayley Andreas medaled Thursday’s round against the San Benito High girls golf team with a 2-over 38, but the visiting Lady Balers posted lower scores across the board to upend the Breakers 204-213 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Each player on San Benito carded a round in the 50s, a score head coach Chris Branon was pleased with, especially “on a golf course none of them had stepped on before.”
“For them to be all in the 50s,” Branon added, “that’s pretty good.”
Jordan Davies and Jenny Glosser led the Lady Balers with matching 50s, while LaShea Dailey’s 51 and Katie Moeller’s 53 rounded out the scoring for San Benito.
Yumi Kimura and Emiley Palmquist, meanwhile, each carded a 55.
Consistent scores in the low 50s were enough for San Benito to offset Andreas’ 38, which was shot on the par-36 front nine at Poppy Hills.
“I was surprised, happy – surprised we beat them on their home course,” Branon said.
On Wednesday, the San Benito High girls junior varsity golf team defeated visiting Presentation 211-216 at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister. The Lady Balers will travel to San Jose on Wednesday to play Presentation on its home course, Los Lagos Golf Course.
The San Benito varsity team, meanwhile, will travel to Salinas’ Corral De Tierra Country Club on Monday to compete against Notre Dame.
