San Benito freshman Ryan Han earned medalist honors and the Baler boys’ golf team finished runner-up at the first Tri-County Athletic League Tournament on Wednesday, carding a team score of 202.

Palma fended off San Benito to earn the top spot with a team score of 192, with the two teams far and away leading the rest of the TCAL member schools.

Salinas finished in third place Wednesday at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch, but trailed the second-place Balers by 35 strokes.

Gilroy (242), Everett Alvarez (244), Alisal (246) and North Salinas (251) rounded out the remaining teams Wednesday.

Han, meanwhile, anchored San Benito by carding a 2-under 34 on Laguna Seca’s par-36 front nine — the lowest score of anyone at the TCAL Tournament.

Teammate Will Cross trailed with a 2-over 38, while Jared Lantis followed with a 39. Nathan Winn’s 43 and Aaron Smith’s 48 rounded out the scoring for San Benito, while Jade Kimura chimed in with a 51.

The Baler boys’ will be back in action on Monday in a league meet at the Salinas Golf and Country Club. San Benito will square off against both Everett Alvarez and Salinas in the meet.

Tee time is 2:30 p.m.

JV Note:

On Tuesday, while also playing at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Salinas, the San Benito junior varsity golf team was in action against Palma. Led by John German’s 38 and Tony Ramos’ 39, the Balers defeated the host Chieftains by 37 strokes, 220-257.
