San Benito High freshman Ryan Han dominated the field at the Spring Series V at Oakdale Golf and Country Club last weekend, defeating his nearest competitor by six strokes to earn first place.

It was Han’s first victory on the Junior Tour this year, which is part of the Northern California Golf Association.

Competing in the Boys Championship Flight, Han recorded a 5-under 139 (70-69) to earn medalist honors, defeating roughly 31 other golfers, none of whom were able to finish below par for the two-round event.

Han, who is also on varsity for the Baler boys’ golf team, defeated runner-up Justin Suh of San Jose, who finished with a 1-over 145 (71-74).

Han led pretty much from start to finish at last weekend’s tournament. He carded a first-round score of 70, which was his lowest round recorded in an NCGA tournament, and which tied him atop the leaderboard with Dublin’s Steven Sunwoo Choi through 18 holes.

The very next day, though, Han bested his previous round score by carding a 3-under 69 behind five birdies and two bogeys.

Han was the only golfer to finish with two below-par rounds.

In total, he had nine birdies, four bogeys and made par 23 times, while not once carding a double bogey. He shined on par 5’s, too, going 4-under for the tournament.

With a week off for Easter, the Junior Tour will conclude its Spring Series at the Oakmont Golf Course in Santa Rosa on April 30-May 1.
