For the third time this year, the San Benito boys golf team finished in second place to Palma at a Tri-County Athletic League tournament.

But with each tournament, the Balers pull closer and closer to Palma.

On Tuesday, San Benito finished one stroke behind Palma, carding a season-low 198 at Corral De Tierra Country Club in Salinas.

San Benito finished more than 20 shots lower than third-place finishers Monte Vista Christian.

The Balers Aaron Smith carded a tournament low 35. Smith opened the tournament with a birdie on hole No. 8 and a par-5 eagle on hole No. 9.

Ryan Han kept pace, shooting a 36. John German carded a 40 in the tournament.

Andrew Colton (42), Brian Walls (45) and Tony Ramos (45) rounded out the Baler scores.

“We feel we are really starting to hit our stride,” San Benito head coach Reggie Synegal said. “We are really starting to play well.”

San Benito will attempt to continue its improvement Wednesday at Spy Glass Hill Golf Course against Stevenson.

The Balers expect to tee off at 3 p.m.
