Visualize success
Visualization is one of the things all tour players practice not
only on the course but also on the practice range. Ken Venturi once
said that he never hit a shot during a tournament or on the range
that he did not first see in his mind. Here is a drill that will
help you learn to visualize your shots on the golf course.
First, you must be warmed up and swinging in balance. Begin
hitting the ball with your eight iron. As you are doing this, try
and feel the head of the club. Feel it on the back swing, down
swing and finish
– you need to know where the club head is. This is important, so
make sure that you work on feel until you have it. No target is
needed at this point.

Visualization is one of the things all tour players practice not only on the course but also on the practice range. Ken Venturi once said that he never hit a shot during a tournament or on the range that he did not first see in his mind. Here is a drill that will help you learn to visualize your shots on the golf course.

First, you must be warmed up and swinging in balance. Begin hitting the ball with your eight iron. As you are doing this, try and feel the head of the club. Feel it on the back swing, down swing and finish – you need to know where the club head is. This is important, so make sure that you work on feel until you have it. No target is needed at this point.

Now, keeping your eight iron in your hand, pick a target; make it a good, clear target. As you address the ball stare at your target until you have a clear picture in your mind’s eye. As you begin to make your swing, see how long you can keep this picture foremost in your mind. The object of this drill is to keep your target in your mind’s eye until you feel the head of your club in the finish position. The result will be a more accurate shot. This may take a little time to master but wouldn’t practice be boring without a purpose? Just make it a picture.
