Anna Caballero may have lost her bid for the State Senate. But if her appointment from the governor is confirmed, she will have a new $175,000 a year job as secretary of the state and consumer services agency.
Gov. Jerry Brown’s office Tuesday announced two appointments. He appointed Caballero to the consumer services post and a former bank executive from Mill Valley, Mark Ferron, to the Public Utilities Commission.
Caballero, a Democrat, last year was termed out of her post as assemblywoman for the 28th District, which includes Hollister. She ran for Senate in the 12th District, but lost to Republican Anthony Cannella.
Those appointments require Senate confirmation. Caballero would make $175,000 annually, according to an announcement from the governor’s office. Ferron would make $128,109.
According to the governor’s announcement: From 2000 to 2006, Caballero was the executive director of Partners for Peace, a nonprofit specializing in violence prevention work. Caballero served as mayor of Salinas from 1998 to 2006 and was on the Salinas City Council from 1991 to 1998.
