Caller 1: I think maybe Brett Edgerton should actually watch a WNBA game before he rips on the league so much. Did he even see the playoffs that just ended? It was better than anything I’ve seen out of the NBA in years. Anyway, I’m glad, for one, that ESPN has made a commitment to the league. There are fans out there.

Green Phone: If you believe Caller 1 was right to pluralize the word “fan,” please feel free to give us a call. Until then, we’re skeptical. As for Brett, he told us he would have caught some of the playoff games, but chose to just hit himself with metal objects instead. The pain was the same and he saved himself a couple hours.

Caller 2: I just got done watching the Cal-USC game and I think it should be clear to anybody who watched it who the better team was. And it wasn’t the winner. I know this means nothing because it’s all about the wins and losses. But still, hopefully the Bears will be getting some love around the country this week. I know a lot of people thought it was all hype, but they are for real. And so is Aaron Rodgers. He’s better than Matt Leinart … I don’t care what anybody says. Thanks.

Green Phone: Not to pander to our readers, but Green Phone couldn’t agree more. First downs? 28-12, Cal. Rushing yards? 157-41, Cal. Passing? 267-164, Cal. Total yards? 424-205, Cal. Against the No. 1 team in the country, Bears’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 23 straight passes at one point. Southern California 23, California 17. Hey, nobody ever said life is fair.

Caller 3: I must have called the wrong number. My paper gets soaking wet from the sprinklers every day you guys deliver it. I’d be happy to call another number to let them know. Love the paper … wondering if I could get it dry.

Green Phone: Hey, no problem Caller 3. We at the Free Lance deliver the best dry papers in all of California. If you call the turquoise phone in the Circulation department (637-5566), they’ll take care of your problem right away.

Caller 4: I’m glad you started giving us Jeff Garcia updates after the Browns’ games, but this past Tuesday you incorrectly stated that Jeff threw an interception in the Pittsburgh game. Just thought I’d point that out. Otherwise, keep up the good work.

Green Phone: You are correct, sir. We must have been thinking of Kerry Collins. Garcia threw one touchdown, not one interception. In fact, the Gilroy native hasn’t tossed a pick since a Sept. 26 game against the Giants. After all these years, still making us proud …

Caller 5: Just wanted to make a comment that I know said not going to cover high school sports down to junior varsity and freshmen level, but you seem to be giving the Pop Warner a lot of coverage as far as in Thursday’s paper even had a preview of Pop Warner. I thought what you did for the Bellarmine game, the little write-ups for the JV and freshmen underneath the varsity was really great and that would be nice to see that continued. My son plays on the freshmen team. I really appreciate you listening. Thanks for your time.

Green Phone: OK, we admit the Pop Warner coverage has been a little extreme. Look for results and highlights for JV and freshman games as they continue to post strong numbers throughout the league season. Anyone interested in becoming a roving reporter?
