Caller 1: I saw this number in the sports section and I wasn’t quite sure what it was. But I was wondering, there was a number on the TV the other night when Bonds hit the No. 700. It was for a No. 700 T-shirt and hat. Can you tell me who I can call to order one for a nephew who is in a wheelchair? I’d really like to get him one and I don’t know who to call. Just taking a chance that you could help me. Thank you.

Green Phone: We’re on it, Caller 1. If you have access to the Internet, you can go to www.sfgiants.com. Scroll down and little and you’ll see a large “Bonds 700” advertisement on the right. Click on it and it’ll link you to the official Major League Baseball shopping page. Not only can you find T-shirts and hats commemorating the historic home run, but also things like a commemorative coin and a commemorative bear. And honestly, who wants to celebrate this historic accomplishment without a commemorative bear?

Caller 2: I don’t know if this is the right number to call, but I didn’t get all of my paper today. I didn’t get the C part. Anyway, just thought I’d let you know.

Green Phone: Thanks for letting us know. We passed along this information to the Beige Phone in circulation.

Caller 3: Regarding the Green Phone column from last week, I vote for Brett Edgerton wearing the Chiefs jersey in the middle of the black hole … gotta be Montana’s jersey, though. So one vote for that. If it happens, I want to take the pictures.

Green Phone: If that happens, the pictures you will be taking will be crime-scene photos. Have you seen the scary things that lurk inside the Black Hole?

Caller 4: I was wondering if you guys could put the junior varsity in the Free Lance, with pictures, too. That would be nice. My son plays on the team.

Green Phone: Due to the limits of time, space and staffing, we are not able to personally cover JV and freshman sports. However, coaches, parents and fans are welcome to submit results and photos from those teams and we will try to find room for them.

Caller 6: Edge, thank you for your refreshing take on the Oakland fans-Texas nightmare. I attended the three games the A’s played against the Red Sox (I relocated to the San Benito County area from Southern California approximately four years ago, so don’t ask how I became a Red Sox fan) and during all three games the A’s fans acted like a bunch of ANIMALS.

There were plenty of insults and threats all series long. I even witnessed several fist fights after the game. Two of them were men fighting in front of their children. In the 25 or so years I have attended baseball games (throughout the country), I have never witnessed a display of such BARBARIC proportions, as I did during my three days at the Network Associates Coliseum. I won’t share some of the stories, because I know they couldn’t be put in print. The city of Oakland and the fans of the Oakland A’s should be ashamed of themselves!!

Of course, there were many problems associated with the three games I attended, but I feel the biggest problem is that the wonderful security folks and the Oakland P.D. can’t differentiate between heckling and threatening. Until they can figure it out, there will probably be repeat performances to come. Thanks again for your GREAT editorial!

Green Phone: Wait a minute, Caller 6. Are you implying that Oakland super-taunter Craig Buenos and his “carrying on an American tradition” hecklers might have done a little more than politely ask the Texas relievers who was going to be the one to lose the game? That’s crazy. Absurd. Absolutely unbelievable.
