Caller 1: What’s up with the scandal involving the ‘Baler baseball team? I hear the JV coaches are gone. Any chances they’ll hire any of our American Little League coaches?
You heard right, sir. San Benito’s head JV coach, Chris Moore, and his assistant, Randy Villa, both resigned. As for a supposed scandal, though, there doesn’t appear to be a smidgen of proof of that. Both San Benito Athletic Director Tod Thatcher and head varsity coach Derek Barnes denied that either of the coaches were forced out.
“They both told me at the start of the year it would be their last year,” Barnes said.
Villa will concentrate on work and school, while Moore will continue to coach the JV football team.
And more than likely, your favorite Little League coaches will continue to coach in your favorite Little League.
Caller 2: Just letting you know that Friday’s paper saying Joe Bradley won by TKO against Lil’ Tyson was the other way around. You should try to fix that up.
Caller 3: You had no results of the fights last night at the Tank. Kelsey couldn’t fight, but there’s no results of the other outcomes. There’s a lot of fight fans around this city and we have very little information available.
Confused yet? Well actually, both callers are right. When the opponent of local favorite Kelsey Jeffries pulled off a no-show in San Jose, The Dispatch decided on a no-go in terms of Friday’s paper. The results did run in the Free Lance, though, and Bradley did not in fact knock out William ‘Lil’ Tyson’ Harmon in the third round. It was the other way around.
Green Phone’s ghost writer actually attended the “fight,” though, and was rather unimpressed with both guys. Lil’ Tyson was almost exactly like old-school Mike Tyson … as long as you take out the little part about boxing. But it still didn’t matter against Bradley, who had his shorts hiked halfway up his chest and looked like an out-of-shape Erkel.
As for the rest of last Thursday’s Miller Lite Fight Night at the Tank, here’s the rundown for Caller No. 3:
– Ricardo Cortes defeated Damon Franklin (TKO Rd. 2)
– Eric “Butterbean” Esch (you know, the fat guy) defeated Sal Farnetti (TKO Rd. 1)
– Sergio Rios defeated Roderick Grajeda (TKO Rd. 5)
– Alan Cespedes defeated Gerardo J. Ramirez (Unanimous decision, 4 Rounds)
Caller 4: The Gilroy Gators have been in season since April and it’s now going to be the end of summer and I just wanted to know if the Dispatch is going to ever run anything on the swim team of Gilroy?
A good question with a definite answer: Yes. Be looking for it soon.
Caller 5: I was actually trying to catch you while you were at home. With the upcoming increase in cable television rates, we’ve picked your area for the new promotion. So you get a satellite TV system for up to three rooms for free, a free installation and your monthly rate only $29 for over 130 channels. Oh, also if able to get back with me right away, we’ll include with your package a free home theater system with a DVD player, a CD player and six speakers … a free gift for just signing up. So again, give me a call when you get back in. And don’t forget to mention the promotion code.
Oh we didn’t forget, pal.
Now we’re withholding the name and number of the company, but we’re guessing you’ve gotten this call, too. After all, we’re the lucky ones who were included in their promotion area (which coincidentally, stretches from South Valley to South Florida).
Anyway, we at the Green Phone were enticed by all these gadget give-always, but found out very quickly there are a few catches involved. But one positive thing did come out of the phone call – the first option in the menu allows you to remove yourself from the marketing list.
We do appreciate the courtesy.
