CALLER 1: I was reading your Tuesday article regarding cross country and you only mention certain individuals. You also failed to mention what happened to the No. 2 and No. 4 runners. Nobody knows why they didn’t run. What happened to them?
GREEN PHONE: The Green Phone spoke with San Benito cross country coach Jess Morales, who informed us that the two runners did not participate because of discipline issues.
He acknowledge that their absence was likely a factor in the team not being able to qualify for the state meet, but said “When you have to deal with discipline, we as coaches have to what we have to do.”
Morales also emphasized that he wanted to give credit to the runners who did run in the race.
“It’s not so much winning, it’s that the kids really stepped up and did what they needed to do as team,” he said.
