The San Juan Oaks Del Webb project deserves our support. I have seen and visited numerous senor citizen projects in the United States. As a New Urban advocate, I have read a great deal of research and I understand how these communities have evolved in design and amenities. I recently visited a Del Webb project here in California somewhat similar to San Juan Oaks. I am convinced that this Del Webb project is at a par or better than most other senior developments.
This is not just another development. I know. I am familiar with every development ever built in this county. I was born here. This development is very unique and meets the needs of a specific group not being met by other developments.
San Juan Oaks is a project for seniors 55 and older.
People who are living in a situation they no longer can or want to sustain. Many seniors feel they need to downsize because they can no longer take care of a large home or a time-consuming landscape. Many seniors find themselves at a location that is too auto dependent.
Many are local citizens who want to maintain a good quality of life as they age. And, they want to age in place. In this case to stay in San Benito County and not search of an active senor development somewhere away from family and friends. This project is designed to help them stay here and move on with their lives. Here are a few observations I have noted about San Juan Oaks.
> The size and range of homes meets the demand and diverse needs of seniors.
> The price of houses is reasonable in today’s market.
> The design and amenities provide for a diversity of lifestyles, social contact, privacy, health , transportation, and proximity to community
>Floor plans reflect the research I have read. They provide comfort and utility. Outdoor amenities blend and complement the open interiors.
The Del Web project is good for our county. As local seniors relocate to new homes at San Juan Oaks, housing will be made available for new home buyers. We also need to grow our population to pay the costs of establishing a sustainable community that benefits all of us. We need the economic contributions required of our community. And, we need to accept our responsibility as a community to provide senior housing in a country that will double its senior citizen population in the next 20 years.
