Anzar, York combine for two goals in first six minutes, zero
goals in last 74 minutes
MONTEREY
Anzar High and York School combined for two goals within the first six minutes of regulation on Tuesday, but remained scoreless through the final 74 minutes of play as the two teams finished in 1-1 tie in Monterey.
York scored the first goal in the 4th minute to go up 1-0, but Anzar’s Lauren Bellone knotted the game at 1-all just two minutes later.
From there, though, both teams went silent.
“The majority of the game was back and forth,” Anzar head coach Albert Flores said. “York is a good team. They played well.”
Bellone’s goal was her third in the last two games for the Hawks, which are now 3-0-2 in the Coastal Athletic League, 3-3-3 overall.
Flores commented on the closing minutes of the game, where Anzar had several chances to score the go-ahead, and mostly likely the game-winning, goal.
“We had five shots (on net) within the last two minutes,” Flores said. “It was crazy at the end, but we just couldn’t find the net.”
The Hawks will return to York on Thursday to battle Calvary Christian at 3:30 p.m.
