Anzar High stayed alive Monday for a Division V Central Coast Section volleyball berth with a 16-14, 15-10, 16-14 thrill ride at Carmel.

The Hawks were down 14-11 in the first game and up 14-11 in game three.

Anzar improved to 22-11 overall and 10-5 in the Mission Trail Athletic League with Wednesday’s home match vs. Pacific Grove the only one left on the regular season schedule.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by Leanna Hardy’s 15 digs and Cory Strasser’s 12. Treva Crocker, a talented sophomore, had four blocks.

Offensively, Kiely White had 27 kills for the Hawks while Gena Ray had 29 assists. Stephanie Smith chipped in three aces.

Anzar needs to beat Pacific Grove, then hope for some luck at the CCS seeding meeting Saturday at 1 p.m.

Should the Hawks make the tournament, their first game would be Nov. 16.
