Anzar kicks off season today, looking for more golfers
Since starting the season with a team score of 227 against Palma at the Laguna Seca Golf Club in Monterey, things have simply not gone Anzar’s way.
With their Mission Trail Athletic League season ready to kick off today, Tuesday, at King City, the Hawks golf team is searching for a fifth player.
Coach Will Trefts and Eric Lopez are missing three players to academic ineligibility, two players to travel basketball, one player to injury and another who’s taking college courses.
In fact, the Hawks have canceled two meets against San Benito on March 13 and 17, and another against Salinas on March 19 already.
“We’re pretty thin,” Trefts said.
If the team is unable to find a fifth player, they’ll be forced to forfeit today’s league-opening meet.
Hawks Nick Tanouye, Timothy Trefts, Ethan Petzmick and Steven Mockabee will no doubt look to make the best of the situation in King City, and Trefts still believes Anzar can defeat the host team.
Even with a full squad, though, Tanouye and Trefts would still be the team’s top-two golfers.
“Tanouye and Trefts are pretty good,” coach Trefts said. “They’re No. 1 and No. 2 on the team regardless of what happened.”
Anzar will remain searching for a fifth player, and are hoping to make the most of April as a result.
