Anzar girls soccer team beats Gonzales 5-0 Wednesday; boys team
ties PG on Monday, loses to PG Tuesday
SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

Led by a two-goal effort from Lauren Bellone, the Anzar High girls soccer team ended its regular season on a high note Wednesday when it cruised past visiting Gonzales 5-0 in San Juan Bautista.

Bellone supplied more than enough damage in the rout, scoring two goals early on and one minute apart, no less. The sophomore forward scored in the 11th minute and then again in the 12th minute.

“It was a very easy game,” Anzar head coach Albert Flores said. “A very one-sided game.”

Teammate Jocelyn Sicairos tacked on another goal just before the half in the 34th minute to make it 3-0 Hawks at the break.

Keeper Erin Deleissegues came out of the net in the second half to score in the 50th minute, while Brianna McCain made it a romp with yet another goal in the 66th minute.

The Hawks finish the regular season at 6-2-2 in the Coastal Athletic League, 6-5-3 overall. They tied for second place with York in the CAL, while Pacific Collegiate earned the league crown last week.

As an above-.500 team, however, Anzar does have a chance for an at-large bid toward the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs, although the team will need plenty of luck in order to earn a spot.

The CCS seedings will be announced this weekend.

ANZAR HIGH BOYS SOCCER

Needing to win their last three remaining games in order to steal the league title from Pacific Collegiate, the Anzar High boys soccer team tied Pacific Grove 3-3 on Monday, then lost to the Breakers 4-0 on Tuesday.

In Monday’s tie, the Hawks held a 3-1 lead going into the second half, only to watch Pacific Grove pocket two goals.

Anzar is now 5-3-1 in the Coastal Athletic League, 5-4-1 overall.

With only one game remaining – on Thursday against York – the Hawks have been eliminated from title contention in the CAL, althouth their above-.500 record supplies some hope for an at-large bid toward the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.

Anzar will host York on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

The CCS seedings will be announced this weekend.
