Watsonville – The San Benito High girls basketball team is busy working on fixing all of the things that held it back last season.
And it looks like all of the re-tooling is starting to pay off. The Haybalers improved to 10-3 with another dominating performance to pick up the 73-38 win on the road against Monte Vista Christian.
San Benito controlled every statistical category once again on Tuesday. The Balers ended the game with 22 offensive boards and 22 defensive. They racked up 21 assists and shot an impressive 53 percent from the floor.
Trisha Lee took a break from her usual 20-points a game and deferred to her teammates, finishing the game with five assists and seven points.
“She’s really doing a lot of things that she hasn’t done in past years,” said Balers head coach Tom Dean of Lee’s play. “Now, after a steal, she recognizes that it’s her against three defenders, back it out and then there’s Jamie Hall rolling down the middle of the lane and she dishes it off to her. Her court management is a lot better.”
Jamie Hall led the Balers with 17 points while teammate Jamie Flores added 15. Crystina Osborne chipped in nine points but was also strong on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds in the win.
San Benito’s crowded schedule for this week continues tonight when the team travels to Monterey before opening up league play on Friday at home against Gilroy.
“We know that Gilroy is going to press us,” Dean said. We’ve been working pretty hard on countering that.”
