The Heat 12’s take on the Victoria Rage from Texas today at 3 p.m. at Maidu Field.

“We don’t want to lose this one,” said Heat manager Todd Freitas. “If we do, then we’ll play five games on Saturday. Victoria Rage is a solid club. We watched them play.”

The Heat struck first blood with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Elena Fata walked, then Brenna Carrillo-Zazueta beat out an infield single. Bri Romero destroyed a pitch to the off-field for a two-run triple. Romero later scored on a passed ball.

Freitas was excited about the drive Fata had in the third.

“The fence was 175-feet away,” said Freitas. “The ball went 172-feet. She crushed it. If it wasn’t raining and if the wind wasn’t blowing in, it would have been a home run.”

Fata settled for a double, though she was stranded.

The Heat concluded its scoring in the fourth inning. Romero walked, then Chelsea Freitas singled. An eventual fielder’s choice ground ball by Rachel Maheu scored one run, the Lizzy Gatto’s bases loaded walk scored the other.
