The Hollister Heat 16U B team notched another tournament win at Merced Madness last weekend where the local fastpitch softball team compiled a 6-0 record and outscored its opponents by a 50-12 margin.

Hollister was first among 10 other teams present at the tournament, and even silenced the Atwater Cutters 9-0 in the championship final, a team the Heat defeated 8-5 during pool play.

Coach Dave Dominguez highlighted the Heat’s play from its semifinal contest against the Los Banos Tigers, though.

“I think our best game was against the Los Banos Tigers,” Dominguez said. “They were a very good team and only gave up two runs all tournament.”

Hollister was knotted with Los Banos at 2-all in the bottom of the fifth when Hollister’s Megan Flores kick-started a nine-run rally, pushing the Heat out to an 11-2 lead.

The game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule.

“I was very proud of our girls for stepping up and taking control of the game,” Dominguez said. “Their bats all came alive in the last inning, including some key hits from LeNae Stevens, Olivia Diaz and Taylor Wood.”

Hollister opened tournament play with a 5-2 victory over the Lady Warriors, which was a far closer margin of victory from pool play when the Heat shutout the Warriors 13-0.

The Heat went 3-0 in pool play, which included a 4-3 win over the Ceres Sizzle to open the tournament.

Key hitters from Merced, Dominguez said, were Marissa Adame and Amanda Palermo, who came through strong in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the lineup, while Savaunah Ruvalcaba delivered tremendous pitching with five wins. Alex King also added a victory on the mound.
