The Hollister Heat 12-and under blanked the Jinx of Oakland 4-0 Wednesday to chalk up a 2-0 record in the ASA ‘B’ Western National’s taking place in Roseville.
The Heat 12’s play today at 3 p.m. as bracket play begins.
Mary Hernandez was dominant on the mound for the Heat 12’s, striking out nine and allowing just two hits.
The Heat strung together five straight singles in the third inning for two runs. Rachel Maheu, Liz Gatto and Elena Fata singled for one run. Brenna Carrillo-Zazueta singled in the second run of the inning. Bri Romero singled, but no runs came across.
The speedy Maheu manufactured a run single-handedly in the fourth. She got aboard on an err, stole second then stole third. The throw to third went into left field and Maheu trotted home.
Carrillo-Zazueta, who went 3-4 on the day, singled in the fourth and was pinch-run for by Kelsey Russell. Russell was moved up a base, then scored on Chelsea Freitas’ RBI double.
