events were well attended and fun was had by all. The grand
ppening of the Visitor Center was particularly exciting with
grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Joseph and Mary Garcia,
who built the house in 1907, attending from as far away as Twin
Falls, Idaho. For the ribbon cutting ceremony, members of the
Chamber of Commerce, Supervisor Margie Barrios, the Jack O’Donnell
family, the Garcia family and members of the San Benito County
Historical Society gathered to celebrate the completion of the
project.
Despite the threatening weather, the June 4 “Day at the Park” events were well attended and fun was had by all. Music was provided throughout the day by the “Save the Music” youth bands and the San Benito Stage Company cast of their summer production of “Music Man.”
Everyone enjoyed the Engine Show sponsored by Branch 3 of the Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Association and Tractor Supply of Gilroy with event attendees learning about early farm equipment from the participants. The day ended with a well-attended fundraising wine tasting with wines provided by most of the San Benito County wine makers.
The Historical Village is located in the San Benito County Historical and Recreational Park located on Highway 25, 1 mile south of Tres Pinos. The public is welcome and tours may be arranged by calling the museum. Admission to the Village is free; however there is a gate fee to the park of $3.00 per vehicle, which is collected by the County. In addition, areas of the County Park may be reserved by contacting San Benito County Public Works at 636-4170.
The Museum is located at 498 Fifth Street in Hollister, and is open to the public on Saturday 9am to 12pm and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. Arrangements may be made for special tours by calling the museum at 831-635-0335. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
