The Hollister National Little League 11 year-olds jumpstarted the 11 year-old All-Star Tournament off with an early Fourth of July bang Tuesday night in Salinas. The National 11’s doubled up Continental 10-5 at Hartnell Little League Park to stay in the winner’s bracket.

The National 11’s, managed by Manny Amaral, tangle with tonight’s Hollister American-Soledad victor this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salinas-American Field. The game was moved up from a 1 p.m. start.

Joey Amaral pitched the first four innings, allowing just two runs to pick up the win for the National 11’s. Romero Chapa had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Kevin Wilson, a natural leadoff hitter, went 2-4 to aid the National 11’s cause.

In the San Juan/Aromas-Hollister 9 year-old Tournament, the Hollister National 9’s were defeated by Hartnell 19-5. Hartnell scored 13 runs in the last inning to break it open.

“Our players weren’t used AAA rules,” said National 9’s manager Ron Kutzer. “Most of us play AA and we can’t steal home. Their team figured it out and kept running on us.”

Pat Kutzer pitched four strong innings, working the second through fifth.

The National 9’s play tonight’s Hollister American-Capitola/Soquel loser Monday at Vet’s Park at 5:30 p.m.
