The first results of a new standardized test revealed the Accelerated Achievement Academy was one of the best performers in the state, the school’s principal told Hollister School District trustees last week.
The site ranked 20th in the state out of 2,482 middle schools on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, according to Principal Joe Rivas, who pulled the statistics from schooldigger.com.
“And even though they are at the academy, these are all of our students,” Rivas said. “These are the Hollister School District-area students.”
At the academy, 78 percent of students met or exceeded state standards in English while 62 percent achieved at the same level in math, according to the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress’ website.
Rivas asked academy staff present at the meeting to stand for recognition, and the gathered audience gave them a round of applause.
At the school, 39.8 percent of the students qualify for free and reduced-price lunches, the principal said. About 25-35 percent of the students come from Calaveras School, while others come from other schools in the district, he said.
