Hollister – Pacific Gas and Electric Company recently made payments totaling more than $216,000 to the City of Hollister.

That money consists of a franchise fee, which PG&E pays cities and counties for the right to use public streets to run gas and electric service; and the franchise fee surcharge, which is a percentage of transportation and energy costs for customers who buy their energy from third parties. PG&E collects the surcharge and passes it on to cities and counties.

The company’s total 2006 franchise fee and surcharge payments were $16 million for gas and $23 million for electric service.
