Hollister – Although city officials have indicated Hollister will not be meeting its October sewer deadline, the Regional Water Quality Control Board has said it will not hold the city to any fines.

Harvey Packard, a supervisor at the RWQCB, said the board has been happy with the city’s compliance so far and will take that into consideration as the deadline approaches.

“Our board is aware that they (Hollister) probably won’t make that deadline, and Hollister has been before our board and has discussed it,” Packard said. “They’ve said they probably won’t make the deadline, but it’s because they’ve been working with the other agencies.”

The City recently approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Hollister, San Benito County, and the San Benito County Water District that divides control and management of the new sewer plant among the three entities. The agencies have a history of bickering over water control, so teaming up shows the RWQCB that Hollister is taking steps in the right direction, according to Mayor Pauline Valdivia.
