A traffic stop turned into drunken driving and auto theft arrests early Sunday morning.

Officer Nathan Bowling attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Mercey Springs Road and Pacheco Boulevard at 12:23 a.m. after the driver allegedly made an illegal turn, police said.

The driver, 20-year-old Marcos Cadena, of Hollister, reportedly failed to stop for the officer and continued to drive north on Mercey Springs Road. Police discovered the car was reported stolen in Hollister.

Police said Cadena eventually stopped the vehicle in the 700 block of Jeffrey Road where he was placed under arrest on suspicion of auto theft, possession of stolen property and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Officers also arrested the passengers, 24-year-old Eduardo Cadena and 20-year-old Paul Casarez, both of Hollister, on suspicion of possession of stolen property.

Police said Cadena was found to be under the influence of alcohol and also arrested for driving under the influence and driving without a license. Marcos Cadena is currently in custody at the Merced Main Jail. He is being held without bail because of a state parole violation. Eduardo Cadena and Paul Casarez are both in custody at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
