A Hollister man died after a head-on crash Sunday in Prunedale, and a woman from there could be charged with vehicular manslaughter, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Aurelio Perez-Garcia, 36, died from injuries at the scene of the crash on Castroville Boulevard south of Paradise Road, according to the Monterey County Coroner’s Office.

Shawna A. Allen, 34, of Prunedale, was driving a 1996 Ford eastbound on Castroville Boulevard at 12:12 p.m. Sunday when it crossed the median and hit a 1997 Chevrolet in which the man and Fabian P. Garcia, 22, of Hollister, were traveling, the CHP reported. Perez-Garcia was driving the Chevrolet, according to the CHP.

Allen and Garcia were flown by helicopter to San Jose Regional Medical Center, officers reported. Allen, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered unspecified major injuries, and Garcia suffered unspecified moderate injuries, according to the CHP.

“The driver of the ’96 Ford will be charged with vehicular manslaughter,” said officer Jim Covello, a public information officer for the Monterey area office of the CHP.

Officers arrested Allen on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, a felony, in connection with Perez-Garcia’s death.
